JCSIS is looking for an enthusiastic and inquiry-driven K–5 Science Teacher to inspire a love of discovery and scientific thinking in our youngest learners. The ideal candidate will design hands-on, inquiry-based science experiences that connect children to the natural world and lay the groundwork for lifelong scientific literacy.

Key Responsibilities

Design and deliver engaging, inquiry-based science lessons across Kindergarten through Grade 5 that align with the school's science curriculum and standards
Connect science learning to real-world contexts and cross-curricular themes (e.g. sustainability, health, technology)
Facilitate hands-on experiments, investigations, and projects that develop scientific thinking and curiosity
Differentiate instruction to engage learners across all ability levels and grade bands (K–2 and 3–5)

Maintain a safe, well-organised science learning environment; enforce laboratory safety protocols at all times

Assess student understanding through practical tasks, observations, science journals, and projects

Manage science materials, equipment, and consumables responsibly

Support school-wide STEM initiatives, science fairs, and enrichment events

Stay current with developments in science education and attend relevant professional development

Communicate student progress effectively to parents and guardians

Collaborate with homeroom teachers and specialist staff to integrate science across the curriculum

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Science Education, or a science-related degree (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science) with a teaching qualification
Strong background in life science, earth science, physical science, and scientific inquiry methods
Minimum 2 years of experience teaching science at the elementary level (K–5 preferred)
Proven ability to manage hands-on labs and experiments safely with young learners
Ability to differentiate content effectively across multiple grade levels
Enthusiastic, curious, and able to model scientific thinking for students
Experience integrating STEM/STEAM approaches is a strong asset
Valid teaching certification/licence preferred
Excellent classroom management and interpersonal skills
Proficiency with educational technology and digital science tools
